Joseph Pilates: A Biography
recounts the life story of the man behind the Pilates method - starting from his difficult childhood in Mönchengladbach to the productive years in his original studio on 8th Avenue in New York City.
With archival research in Joe’s homeland of Germany and countless interviews and investigation, Rincke unearths the roots of his method in German Body Culture, his internment on the Isle of Man, short career in professional boxing in the 1920s, as well as his first patents and immigration to the United States. This illustrative biography lets the reader experience what it was like to be a student in Joe’s studio and how his influence has, fifty years later, molded the next generation of the Pilates Method.
